

Embsay station is at Embsay, northeast of Skipton. The 4.5 miles of railway links Embsay (built 1888) to the one at Bolton Abbey (built 1997). The original Bolton Abbey station was royally connected, being the nearest station for the Duke of Devonshire’s Bolton Hall, and included visits from King Edward VII and King George V. It is planned that eventually the line will be expanded and link into Skipton station.
There are more than 30 steam and diesel locomotives pulling fine old coaches through the beautiful Dales countryside.

The trains operate every Sunday
throughout the year and some school half-terms and Saturdays. Many events are organized each year.

This railway runs from Pickering, Levisham, Goathland (Heartbeat country), Grosmont and Whitby, travelling through lovely scenery and delightful beauty spots.
The line, operational since the 1830s, was a victim of Dr Beeching in 1965 but was reopened by volunteers just 8 years later. Its most famous engine is the LNER Class A4 locomotive, Sir Nigel Gresley.

Goathland Station has been used for Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and for Aidensfield in Heartbeat. Gwyneth Paltrow filmed scenes at Pickering station for the movie Possession.

The service operates over a 17-mile section of the line from Leeming Bar, via Bedale, Finghall and Leyburn. The Wensleydale Railway plc was formed in July 2003 and a year later was extended by 5 miles to Redmire .Passengers can now travel through the lovely Dales scenery and alight to visit the delightful market towns en route. This is not a standard heritage railway with only steam engines, but an interesting hybrid .It serves as a local community railway as well as providing nostalgia train rides and tourist attractions.
Lots of special trips are available e.g. in the past there have been Trips for Fathers Day, a Thomas the Tank Engine visit, and a Celebration of Yorkshire Day.

A group of volunteers reopened this railway in 1968 and it was the first complete standard gauge branch line in the country to be reopened by enthusiasts.
Now steam and diesel trains run along nearly 5 miles of tracks from Keighley to Oakworth, Haworth (The Brontes home town) and Oxenhope. Services run at weekends and daily at holiday times.
Famous Filming :
The Edwardian Oakworth station was used in the 1970 film The Railway Children with Jenny Agutter starring.
Many more have used the railway including Yanks with Richard Gere, Inspector Frost with David Jason, Housewife 49 with Victoria Wood and Michael Crawford in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.
