Harewood House gardens

Harewood House

Harewood is located 7 miles between Leeds and Harrogate on the A61. There is ample free parking and cyclists and bus travellers get half price admission.

The House

The house has been owned by the Lascelles family for over 200 years and is one of England’s great treasure houses, furnished by Thomas Chippendale, with interior designs by Robert Adam.

The owners have added to the collection over the years including Renaissance masterpieces, Chippendale furniture, watercolours by JMW Turner, Sevres porcelain and superb examples of 20th century painting and sculpture. There is also an unusual opportunity to experience life as it was “Below Stairs” and discover for yourself what it was really like to live and work there.

The Garden

The Harewood gardens are beautiful with a restored elaborate Victorian Terrace with intricate flowerbeds and colourful borders, and an Archery border with sub-tropical plants. There is a delightful lakeside walk which leads to the newly- developed Himalayan garden with its cascading waterfall and walled garden with Spiral meadow.Harewood House courtyard cafe

The courtyard café, as well as serving great food, offers stunning views over the lake, the bird garden (home to over 80 rare and exotic species) and penguin pool from the new lakeside terrace.

The Planetarium

In 2007, Harewood became the home of the Yorkshire Planetarium where you can learn about the constellations and planets that can be seen in our night sky or take a 3D journey through our solar system.
Additional charges apply to visit the planetarium.
